I "accelerated" at Hunter, so I have always felt myself to be part of a class that doesn't really exist: the class of 1967-1968. I was quite a race horse in what Shakespeare's Cleopatra would call my "salad days," winning fellowships and accolades somewhat compulsively. After HCHS I finished college in three years, and got my Ph.D. in 1975, when I became the youngest professor ever hired at Princeton, a distinction I probably still hold. Fifty years later, of course, I am no longer the youngest or only woman anything anymore, and I am glad of that.

I have had a very fulfilling career as a scholar, critic, and teacher of comparative drama and theater as a professor at Princeton, Columbia, and Stony Brook University, where I now hold the title of Professor Emeritus. I have published widely (Princeton University Press, Macmillan, The Village Voice, TheatreWeek, Modern Drama, Applause . . .), travelled extensively, created and helmed one of America's first graduate programs in dramaturgy, consulted with a variety of theater companies, and mentored lots of terrific playwrights, actors, directors, and teachers.

I am most proud to call myself mom to Sarah Carden, Rebecca Carden, and Ben Noah Packard. By the way, Ben is just 21, and is graduating from college a week before my 50th Hunter High School reunion, so maybe I DO still find myself to be distinguished by age. Perhaps I have the distinction of parenting the youngest child born to the class of 1967!

Best to all,
Carol Rosen
