September 1967 I headed off to SUNY Stony Brook with roommate June Stahl. In 1970 I married Ray Klein, my HCHS prom date, and moved to Eugene, Oregon, where I completed my MSc in Biology and became a certified teacher of science and math. Student teaching with students more interested in tossing ice cubes convinced me to ignore the classroom in favor of more diversified studies in biology, with a strong interest in ‘microscopic technique’, learning photography through the electron microscope and up to subjects the size of mosquitos.
We relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1974, where Ray became a professor in the Department of Psychology and Neurosciences, and I become the senior biomedical photographer at the Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University. Ironically while at Hunter, I had taken the opportunity to teach a one week section on Light and Color to a grade 10 physics class. My position at the Faculty of Dentistry evolved as we became Dental Instructional Resources, including clinical photographer, webmaster, communications officer, and instructional designer, assisting oral heath professionals with their teaching, research and public relations. I retired in Dec  2016 after 40+ years.

Ray and I have 2 daughters, the completed her PhD in Science Studies in the Department of Communications at UCSD after receiving a BA from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and NYU for her Masters in Performance Studies and is currently back in Canada teaching at the University of Waterloo. We have one granddaughter who is just turning 11 years old. Our youngest, now a classical violinist and Suzuki teacher, did her undergraduate BMus at Sir Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario Canada and her MMus at University in Victoria and now teaches and performs in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We have been owned by one Afghan Hound, one cat, and two Bearded Collies.

Since retiring we’ve been wintering in La Jolla, California. I’ve begun working with mosaics and glass, a nice change from the virtual world, and knitting lots of socks. I’m editor of the Newsletter for Association of Dalhousie Retirees and Pensioners where I get to share some fascinating articles about activities folks have been involved with since their retirement. I love the emphasis on healthy aging and continuing education activities.

I’d be happy to hear from fellow classmates at marilynklein@mac.com
