After Hunter, I went to Smith College in Northampton, MN, and earned a BA in music followed by a Master of Music degree. During college I switched from piano to harpsichord, to play Bach and other Baroque composers, which are more suited to my temperament and hand size than later music.

I met my husband Adrian (Andy) Lo while he was at Smith Studying for his MMus in viola. Our earlier journey took us to a couple of brief stints in Bloomington, IN while Andy was in graduate school and twelve years in Maine, first in Camden and later in Oakland. It was in Maine when I accidentally ran in to Mari Miya at an outdoor arts festival – a wonderful happenstance after losing touch for over ten years.

I’ve been in Minnesota since 1988. After working for nine years in HR at C.F. Hathaway Co. in Maine, I had a thirty-year career at Scholarship America, a nonprofit education assistance foundation which is known for its Dollars for Scholars network of community-based, volunteer chapters. Scholarship America also established and manages the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund for survivors of the 9/11 attacks and their families. I happily retired in 2018 after my last position as VP Operations.

Our daughter Erika is an artist and lives in Shakopee, a suburb of Minneapolis an hour away, with her partner and six children between them. After several years as a full-time mom, free lance designer and distance learning manager during Covid-19 school shutdowns, she now works at a landscape architecture firm in Minneapolis. Our son Aaron is developmentally disabled and lives in a group home just two miles from us. Covid-19 enforced isolation was challenging for him and his housemates, but staff worked hard to keep their spirits up and engage them in creative ways, like giving them “spa” treatments when they couldn’t go out for a haircut. For several months until he could go out and visit at our house, we delivered Daddy Door Dash fast food meals. Luckily Aaron’s likes are simple and easy to accommodate.

These last two years have been challenging as we deal with health issues and isolation amidst a toxic political environment. We continue to volunteer in community and church, connect with friends as much as possible, and try to find humor every day. I’ve become an obsessive knitter and you’ll find me most days surrounded by baskets of yarn, needles and patterns.

Greetings and best wishes to all of you!
